The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA)

PAIA gives South African based visitors the right of access to: (i)   any information held by the State; and (ii)   any information that is held by another person and that is required for the exercise or protection of any rights.

This means you can request access to information held by public bodies, as well as from a natural or juristic person (private body). In the case of a request for access to information held by a natural or juristic person, you have to indicate that the information requested is required for the exercise or protection of any rights.

In terms of Section 51(1) of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 ("the Act"). The purpose of these documents is to serve as the manual of 4C IT and 4C ECT as required by the Act, and to provide a reference as to the records held and the procedures that need to be followed to request access to such records.
